Hurlock Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary with assistance of the Hurlock Volunteer Fire Company raised $825.00 for Wreaths Across America to benefit the Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery.
[HURLOCK, MD, July 16th, 2018—] The Hurlock Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary decided to get involved after meeting with Lynn Riley from a local group whose mission is to try and have a wreath on every grave. Last year there were approximately 1300 wreaths donated for approximately 7200 interned veterans at the Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery in Beulah. Beulah is the only Veterans Cemetery on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.
After Lynn Riley came and spoke to the Hurlock Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary they were immediately on board. The wreaths are $15 each. For every two sponsored by a local individual or business, Wreaths Across America will provide one free. Riley said her group is looking for enough donations to sponsor 5,000 wreaths. With the additional 2,500 free wreaths, there will be enough to cover all 7,200 graves in the cemetery. The Auxiliary decided to donate all the proceeds from the June Family Bingo to the cause and the Fire Company donated all the bingo supplies needed. Some private donations were also collected. The total donated on July 16th, 2018 was $825.00. That will sponsor 55 wreaths, with 27 free from Wreaths Across America, making the total 82 wreaths.
Donations will be collected through Nov. 15. Anyone interested in making a donation may do so online at www.wreathsacrossamerica.org. Enter group ID number MD0016 or location ID number MDESVH to make sure the donation goes toward the purchase of wreaths for the Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery. Donations may also be made by check, written out to Wreaths Across America TM, and mailed to Lynn Riley at 206 Thompson St., Hurlock, MD 21643.
